Dunn Memorial Park used to be called Dunn Cemetery.
To search for names, use your browser's find function.
Located to the right of the Forge Creek Road, about 3 miles before the NC line in Johnson County, TN.
Jeffrey L. Carrier transcribed tombstone inscriptions in this cemetery on June 23, 1980. Several of the stones or markers that are listed in "Upon A Lonely Hill The Cemeteries Of Johnson County, Tennessee" (Upon A Lonely Hill) are no longer present or legible, and there are several markers that are not in the book, either because the deaths occurred after his visit, or in some cases, stones appear to have been erected by families for already-interred family members.
The reader will see some notes, such as "Field Check!". This is an ongoing project, and is nowhere near completion. Please send additions and corrections to .
The following symbols are meant to convey additional information and these changes:
(and or (? [is used to show multiple names on one marker]

Note: Quite a few of my family members are buried there including my father Clifford Whisler. He moved to Mountain City one year before his death. My mother, Leona Pennington, took care of him and her mother Leah Dunn.
While she was well and able, my mom Leone spent many hours at the cemetery cleaning, etc. She is responsible for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as the Jesus statue, angel statue and the American Flag. (Actually my husband was the one who physically installed it.) She was dedicated and proud of her family and her country. During her many visits to the cemetery, she would put flowers on the graves of those who were forgotten. Always saying, "poor old soul, they have forgotten you."
Now she has passed on and we will never forget her.
Judy W. Zetts
