    George D. Jenkins
    SHADY VALLEY, Tenn. -- George D. Jenkins, 90, of 358 George Jenkins Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Mr. Jenkins was a native of Johnson County and was born on Feb. 22, 1912, to the late Nathaniel and Mollie Michael Jenkins. He was an honorary staff member of the Fourth Legislative District, appointed colonel aide de camp on the Governor's staff, a former Johnson County road commissioner and retired farmer. Mr. Jenkins was a member of Ackerson Creek Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Taylor Jenkins; a son, George Jenkins Jr.; six brothers, Jess, Tom, Carl, Roy, Wes and Bob Jenkins; two sisters, Vennie Jenkins and Dora Dyson; and a granddaughter, Michele Sluder.

    Survivors: two daughters, Betty and husband Herbert Sluder, Winchester, Va., and Edith Jenkins, Shady Valley; two sons, Edsel and wife June Jenkins, Bristol Tennessee, and Ralph and wife Bessie Jenkins, Mountain City, Tenn.; two sisters, Annis Winters, Damascus and Louise Duvall, Mountain City; six grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Jim Hutchinson and Mr. Jim Sherman to officiate. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Blevins Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Hutchinson, Dr. Floyd Barker, Tony Long, Randall Garland, Christopher Garland, Jim Plummer, Gerald Buckles, Mike Robinson and Lonnie Long. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Callahan, Tom Bentley, Bob Doyle, Leonard Lewis, Wade Woods, Jim May, Jeff Love, Brett Keesee, Dr. Floyd Barker and Dr. Emory Robinette.

    The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home.
    Friends may also call at the residence, 358 George Jenkins Road, Shady Valley, at any time.
    In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the Shady Valley Fire Department.
    Hux-Lipford Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Dora Dyson

    January 11, 2000

    Dora Dyson, 81, Damascus, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. She was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee, a daughter to the late Nat and Molly Jenkins and had lived in Damascus, Virginia for the past 40 years. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, three sons, two sisters, Annis Winters and Louise Duvall, one brother, George Jenkins.

    Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 13, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Wilson and Rev. Frank Woods officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

    Baxter was the son of John H. & Ollie Michael Arnold.
