  Mary Lou Hartley Barlow, 101, of Lenoir, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Lenoir Health Care.

  She was born June 5, 1905 in Caldwell County to the late Scroggs Andrew Hartley and Sara Elizabeth Nelson Hartley. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Barlow; two brothers, John Hartley, and Rufus Hartley; one sister, Sophia Pierce; a daughter, Marjorie Ayers; three sons, Charles Hartley Barlow, Stanley Nelson Barlow, and Eugene Ray Barlow.

  Mrs. Barlow was a member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church.

  Survivors include ten grandchildren, Gail Bradshaw, David Barlow, Marty Fishman, Sharon Bolus, Malia Bagdy, Kim Barnhardt, Duane Ayers, Joel Ayers, Susan Teague, and Kathy Eller; eighteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.

  Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Tabernacle Advent Christian Church with Rev. Frank Hall and Rev. Hal Vanoy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Tabernacle Advent Christian Church prior to the service.

  She was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Watauga County to the late Jessie F. and Cordie Robbins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and John Robbins; and three sisters, Margie Dotson, Bessie Minton and Lillie Vestal.

  Brookshire was a bookkeeper with Blackwelder's Hospital and a member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church.

  Survivors include one son, Michael S Brookshire of Columbia, S.C., and three grandchildren, Megan E. Branham, Matthew S. Brookshire and Melissa E. Brookshire, all of Columbia, S.C.

  Gordon Lefory Chappell, 72, of Wildwood Road, Lenoir died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

  Mr. Chappell was born Nov. 13, 1930 in Clay County, Arkansas to the late Minor and Olena Lamb Chappell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Lester, Wilburn, Milburn and Raymond Chappell; and one grandson, Jonathan Michael Chappell.

  Mr. Chappell retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years and from the U.S. Air Force Reserve after 10 years. A Vietnam War veteran, he was a member of the retired Military Association and the Air Force Sergeants Association. He also was a retired truck driver for Thurston Motor Lines and Impact Furniture Co.

  Survivors include his wife, Reba Ervin Chappell of the home; a son, John E. Chappell of Roanoke, Va.; two daughters, Lori Lynch of Lenoir and Mrs. Rex (Pamela) Woodward of Roanoke, Va,; two step daughters, Mrs. Alan (Debby) Robbins and Mrs. Dennis (Elaine) Norman of Lenoir; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Boyd of Corning, Arkansas, and Mrs. Eathel Lackmany of Fort Mitchell, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

  She was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Caldwell County to the late Henry and Lillian Pope Boughman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Ervin, six brothers and four sisters.

  Mrs. Ervin was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Jeanette Nelson Maushund; three brothers, Clyde, George and Carl Hartley; and five sisters, Vonnie Goble, Ann Hartley, Ollie Smith, Colean Walker and Mary Lee Icenhour.

  Mrs. Hartley was a Licensed Vocational Nurse and member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church.

  Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, James and Victoria O'Conner of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; grandchildren, Cathryn Green, Kelleen Matheis, James P. O'Conner, Kristin Grinstead, Rick Maushund and Wendy Maushund; and four great-grandchildren.

  Etta Mae Pennington, 89 of Clearview Circle, Lenoir, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at Shaire Center.

  She was born Aug. 7, 1915 in West Jefferson, NC to the late Calvin Campbell and Maggie Pennington Campbell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Eli Pennington; a son-in-law Jackie Austin; a brother, James Campbell; and two sisters, Mable Campbell and Blanche Sheets.

  Mrs. Pennington was a homemaker and member of Lower Creek Baptist Church.

  Survivors include four sons, Otis Pennington, Gerald Pennington, Jackie Pennington and Larry Pennington, all of Lenoir; a daughter, Nancy Austin of Lenoir; a brother Robert Campbell of Roseland, Va., a sister Lucille Stamper of Chillowie, Va., eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

  Funeral services will be Saturday, September 12, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Roger Beck, Rev. Phil Frady and Rev. Frank Hall officiating. The body will lie in state 30 min. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

  The family received friends Friday, September 10, 2004 at Pendry's Funeral Home.

  Pallbearers will be Jeff Pennington, Greg Pennington, Marcus Pennington, Kevin Pennington, Rusty Pennington and Brandon Pennington, all grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jr. Todd, Florencio Pereira and Mike Warren.

  Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lenoir, 902 Kirkwood St. NW, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to Lower Creek Baptist Church, 633 Lower Creek Drive, Lenoir, NC 28645.

  June Kirby Ricks, 85, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Lenoir, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at University Community Hospital in Tampa.

  She was born June 14, 1917, in Caldwell County to the late William and Clare Kirby. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jan Ricks.

  She was retired as a department clerk of the law office of Carlton Fields in Tampa, and was a member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church.

  Survivors include two sons, David Ricks and Timothy Ricks, both of Tampa, Fla., and one grandchild.

  Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Hall officiating.

  Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
