John Robert Eldreth, 57, 300 A Davis Lane, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2004 following a brief illness. He was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee, born April 28, 1946 to the late Lettie Eldreth. He was employed by Northeast Correctional Center, enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling and laughing. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, one sister, Bonnie Hutton, Meadowview, Virginia and one brother, Elmer Eldreth, Mountain City, Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Proffitt Eldreth, of the home; two step-sons, Kevin T. Potter and Tim Osborne, both of Mountain City, Tennessee; four sisters, Irene Eldreth Cox, Mountain City, Tennessee; Earlene Eldreth Farmer and Shirley Eldreth Cornett, both of Jefferson, North Carolina and Nina Mae Eldreth Farmer, Creston, North Carolina; one brother, Fred Eldreth, Mountain City, Tennessee; two step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, special friends, inmates of the Northeast Correctional Center Warehouse and many other special friends.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 9,2 004 at 8 p.m. from the Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. James Greer officiating.
Music was under the direction of the Fletcher Family.
Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Sunset Memorial Park, Mountain City, Tennessee.

Ernest A. Fritts, 75, 236 Sunset Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Wellmont's Bristol Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was a native of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, born August 31, 1928 to the late Dan B. and Virgie Gentry-Fritts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Fritts. He was a retired carpenter. He was a member of State Line Baptist Church and had attended First Christian Church for 51 years.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lena Curd-Fritts, of the home; one daughter, Rebbeca Joyce Tighe and husband Joe, Plano, Texas; one son, Richard Fritts and wife Donna, Mountain City, Tennessee; one sister Gladys Shumate and husband Lawrence, Damascus, Virginia; three grandchildren, Joseph and Alex Tighe, Plano, Texas and Makayla Fritts, Mountain City, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, August 6, 2004 at 8 p.m. from the First Christian Church with Dwayne Dickson and Mike Smith officiating.
Music was under the direction of First Christian Church Choir.
Graveside services and interment were conducted Saturday, August 7, 2004 at 10 a.m. from the Sunset Memorial Park.

She was a native of Shouns, Tennessee, born February 16, 1914 to the late William and Maude Roark-Dunn. She was preceded in death by husbands, Dallas Potter, who passed away in 1942 and Ernest F. Forrester, who passed away in 1999; infant daughter, Juanita; one sister, Ruby Dowell; two brothers, Ferd Dunn and Clinton Dunn; one grandson, Tracy L. Potter; one daughter-in-law, Wilda Potter and one son-in-law, W.D. Johnson Jr. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and quilting. She was of the Baptist faith and had attended Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty J. Johnson, of the home; three sons, Thurl W. Potter and wife Linda, Earl J. Potter and wife Ruth, all of Mountain City, Tennessee; Elmer Potter and wife Janice, Butler, Tennessee; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ira Curd, Ella Parsons and Olive Johnson, all of Mountain City, Tennessee; one brother, Billy J. Dunn, Mountain City, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.

Nannie B. Grindstaff, 90, 930 Stout Branch Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the Watauga County Medical Center following an extended illness. She was born December 1, 1913 in Brownwood, North Carolina, the daughter of the late John D. Greer and Rebecca Mitchell Greer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Don L. Grindstaff, who passed away in 1986; three brothers, Albert, Sanford and Raymond Greer and four sisters, Beulah Phillips, Edna Greer, Ollie Garretson and Viola Baker. She was a homemaker and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed canning, cooking, traveling and horses.
Survivors include one son, Danny Justin Grindstaff and wife Margaret, Mountain City, Tennessee; one sister, Mattie Walker, Mountain City, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Justin Grindstaff and wife Amy, Bluff City, Tennessee; Tracy Holly and husband Wes, Elizabethton, Tennessee; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Anisha and Kendall Grindstaff, Bluff City, Tennessee; special friends, Rose Potter and Sandra Blevins, both of Butler, Tennessee; Willie Dickens, Mountain City, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.

Blaine Greer, 83, 281 Timothy Branch Road, Butler, Tennessee, passed away Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. He was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee, born April 18, 1921 to the late David Marshall Greer and Bertha Rambo Greer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Courtner-Greer, who passed away May 2002, three brothers and five sisters. He retired from Summers-Taylor Construction and was also a retired farmer. He had attended Bethel Baptist Church. He was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Army.
Survivors include two sisters, Dorothy Greer, Norfolk, Virginia and Beulah Carr, Elizabethton, Tennessee; one brother, Dolphus Greer, Orlando, Florida; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Mae Robinson, Butler, Tennessee.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Richard Stout and Daniel Thomas officiating.
Military graveside services and burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park and was accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.

A native of Johnson County, she was born November 11, 1933 to the late Kenny and Elsie Adams Arnold. Mary worked at the Mountain City Glove Plant for many years. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ivan Guinn, one son; Ernest Guinn, two sisters; Martha Johnson and Opal Worley and four brothers; Shelburn Arnold, H.D. He was of the Baptist faith.

Diana Cress Horne, 57, 360 Corner Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2004 following an automobile accident. She was a native of Johnson County, born June 12, 1946 to the late S.T. Bob Cress, who passed away in 2002 and to Lacie Payne Cress. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Horne, who passed away in 2002. She was a 1964 graduate of Johnson County High School and a former employee of Levi Strauss & Company/Leco, where she was employed for over 35 years. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Angela Winters and husband Jamie; her mother, Lacie Payne Cress; two sisters, Joyce Canter and husband Russ, Bobbie Phillippi; one brother, Donnie Cress; two very special grandsons, Josh and Christopher; one niece, Trish Main and two great-nieces, Vanessa and Shannon Main and a very special uncle, Clyde Cress, all of Mountain City.

He was a native of Sevier County, Tennessee but has made his home in Johnson County for the past few years. He was a Security Police for NECC and was a Veteran having served in the US Air Force as a Security Police. He was a member of Roan Creek Baptist Church.

MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. - Billy Ray Nye, age 62, of 830 North Church St., went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2004, after a long battle with Lou Gehrig's
Disease.
He was born May 18, 1941, to the late Charlie and Pearl Rash Nye. Billy was a former employee of Timberland, where he was employed for 27 years. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee and Nellie Nye and Frank and Rosa Rash.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janie Lucille Nye of the home; two sons, Danny Nye and wife Linda and Gary L. Nye and wife Kim, all of Mountain City; four grandsons, Gary E. Nye, Travis Nye and Donnie Nye, all of Mountain City, and Dustin Nye of North Carolina; one granddaughter, Nicole Conway of Ohio; several aunts, uncles and cousins and family pet poodle, Tina.
Funeral services for Billy will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home, with Rev. Frank Woods and Rev. Clyde Campbell to officiate.

Erma Quinn, 85, 116 Mulberry Lane, Mountain City, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 in the Johnson County Health Center. She was a native of Lester, West Virginia but had made her home in Pennsylvania and Mountain City for several years. She was a daughter of the late Norman and Florence Weddle and was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Quinn, who died in 1986, also by two sons, Russell Hawley and Ernest D. Hawley, also by 12 brothers and six sisters. She and her husband was the co-founder of the Mountain City Senior Living Center. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church and had taught Sunday School for 20 years in Pennsylvania and Tennessee.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tommy Wilson, Mountain City, Tennessee; two sisters, Norma Meador, West Patterson, New Jersey; Lavada Ara, Sophia, West Virginia; three grandchildren, Thomas D. Wilson and Vicky Stout, both of Mountain City, Tennessee; Judy Sidenstricter, Nottingham, Pennsylvania; seven great-grandchildren; an extra special niece, Cathy Souder, Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

He was never married and was preceded in death by his only sister, Nova Lee Isaacs.
Survivors include two nieces, Lisa Isaacs Ford, Jonesborough, Tennessee; Betty Johnson, Johnson City, Tennessee; four great-nephews, Christopher Campbell, Anthony Campbell, Peyton Ford and Drew Johnson; one great-niece, Chelsey Ford.

Margie M. Wagner, age 88, of 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Monday, June 7, 2004 at the Watauga Medical Center. She was born May 25, 1916 to the late Mack and Emma Mock McQueen. Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dudley Wagner and two brothers Edgar McQueen and William Leroy McQueen. She was a cancer survivor and enjoyed flowers. Her favorite flower was African Violets. Margie was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Margie is survived by Nephews, Franklin McQueen, Flint, Michigan and Richard Bowman, Columbiaville, Michigan; cousins, Flo, Rick, Kim, Ina, James, Paul, Mark, Mike, Phillip, John, Phillip, Phyllis, Danny Bellamy and Marva Allen and Vincent Gillispi.
Funeral Services for Margie will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004 from the Hux-Lipford Fuenral Home Chapel with Rev. James Smith and Rev. Ernie Widby to officiate. Graveside Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12 2004 from the Sunset Memorial Park, Mountain City, Tennessee.
Active Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers are: Doug Hornsby and the Staff of the Mountain City Care Center. Family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, prior to services at the Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Johnson County Cancer Support Group, c/o Flo Bellamy, 3510 Hwy 421 North, Mountain City, Tennessee or to the Mountain City Care Center, 919 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee.
