A Few Counties Of NC From The 1850 Census
with the Tolbert Surname

These counties were available for me to copy in 1983. I was primarily interested in the central and western parts of the state of North Carolina. Of the 25 or so counties available, I viewed approximately 10 counties as the other counties available were eastern NC. I checked every source that I was aware of and this is the info I found.
By the fact that these records were handwritten it is extremely hard to tell how accurate they are. The fact that so many people were illiterate their surnames varied almost as much as their given name considering the enumerators guesses for how they pronounced them.
I have added the (example) b. 1828 only to make the reference easier. If the census enumerator came in August, 1850 and someone was born in November, 1840 that person would only be 9 not 10 so the b. date is only close not a fact.
The term 'value' beside a number is what was listed on the census. I did not write down the measure whether acreage or money or both. I am not sure.
