Callie Eggers Letter to Husband W. D. from 1904

The following is a letter from my grandmother Callie L. Shoun (daughter of Samuel E. Shoun) in Johnson County, TN. She married William D. Eggers (son of Cleveland H. Eggers). The spelling is like it is in the letter. Typed by Linda Viel.


Mountain City,  
Feb. 15  1904

Mr  W.D. Eggers, Dear husband:-
to night I will write to you again,
I received your letter this morning
I was real glad to hear from you &
that you was getting along with your
work alright I do hope that you will
have good luck & come out alright yet,
I want to move but to the J-  S-House
but I am content to do the best we can
Rube had I.M. Shoun to haul &
drag me some wood & he has been
chopping it for me & Alex's boys have
been chopping me some stove wood.  I
have not got anything at the store since
you left you know that I have plenty
enough to eat.  I put the pigs

in the hog lot but they got out
I will fix where I think they got out at
& put them back.  Rube is building
Buck Hick's a house for will Davis, he
says that he guesses he will saw for L____
Heaton untill Beca gets well.  your ma-
ma is staying with them  Marcills.
Shoun has been trying to steal Ciser
Robinson but "Bill & Kits will not 
let him;"  so I heard.  I have had the
fence all torn down  I have let Rube have
1/2 bu of corn & Mary 1 1/2 bu's  Frank is 
afraid that the mill wheel will plum tare up.
I can't write a good letter for the babbies
cry so, we are all tolerably well & ou' oou!
 how cold the wind blows & oh how lonesome
 & sleepy.  Steve R- has sold to I.M.S. & Haga 
Miller & Co.  Good night dear from your wife,
