Roby and Conley Eggers were sons of Hiram Eggers and Martha E. Jones. Hiram’s parents were Brazilla (Zill) Eggers and Sarah (Sallie) Isaacs. Martha was a daughter of Hiram Jones and Sarah (Sallie) Musgrave. Roby Eggers never married. He farmed with his parents at Trade, where he was born November 29, 1876, and died, January 31, 1923. He often served as “the family correspondent,” according to my dad, Jesse Eggers, son of Conley Eggers (1890-1948) and Lottie Davis (1891-1986), daughter of John G. Davis and Martha Eveline Church, of Shulls Mills, Watauga Co., NC.
The “note” enclosed with the letter is dated Sept. 5, 1920. An accident at Conley’s work (Whiting Lumber Company) may have been the cause of the hospital bill referred to in the note; or it may have been due to Lottie’s illness following childbirth earlier that year. I wanted to post Roby’s letter here in thanks to those neighbors and kin whose kindness must have been a great help to my grandparents, and in hopes some descendants of “the Undersigned” will find them remembered here, by name.
