Where the Sun First Rises in Tennessee & Tennessee History Begins

Johnson County is located in East Tennessee, one of the state's three "grand divisions". It is the most northeast county in the state and the first to get the morning sun. Johnson County was formed in 1836 from portions of Carter County. The county seat was first named Taylorsville and changed to Mountain City in 1886.

USGS National Mapping Information This is a site where you can locate all kinds of features such as cemeteries, hospitals, rivers, streams, dams, schools, churches, post offices and much more. It only lists 66 cemeteries for Johnson County and there are many more than that; however, it is a very useful site and quite fun to use.
