Alexander Doran DAR Monument

Alexander Doran, born in 1760, served in both the Revolutionary War, at the Battle of Kings Mountain, and the War of 1812. He died in 1813.

He had a "monument" erected by the DAR probably sometime in the 1920's. It's really only a small stone plaque that states his life dates, and service. The monument is located in Shouns Crossroads, Johnson County, Tennessee.

His daughter, Rebecca, married Richard Donnelly. Among his descendants are some of the Donnelly's, and the Butler's for whom Butler, TN is named.

I don't think anyone in Johnson county carries the name DORAN now, but some of his descendants do live there. He has a momument because the DAR were probably encouraged by some of their members at the time to do so. Many cemeteries have these Revolutionary citations on people's stones. It was the DAR's way of honoring those individuals.
