Andrew Greer

Andrew Greer was born 10 April 1818 in Ashe Co., NC and died before 1880 in Watauga Co., NC. He was one of the 17 children of Jesse Greer, Sr. and Mary/Polly Morris. Andrew married 1st, Nancy Jane Clawson 8 January 1844 in Knox Co., TN, daughter of William Clawson and Margaret (Peggy) Holman. Andrew and Nancy had the following children:

1. Martha (Matt) E. Greer, b. 2 August 1846 in TN, died 24 Dec 1931, buried Union Baptist Cemetery, Mabel, NC. She married Solomon (Black Solomon) Younce abt. 1871.
   
2. Mary Jane Greer, b. Oct 1848, NC d. 1909, buried McGuire Cemetery, Whaley Community, Avery Co., NC. She married Bluford F. Jones, 1871.
   
3. William/Wilburn Franklin Greer, b. 23 June 1850, NC d. 5 April 1928, Cove Creek, Watauga Co., NC, buried Union Baptist Cemetery, Mabel, NC. He married Martha Ann Isaacs, 11 July 1872, Johnson Co., TN.
   
4. Henry M. Greer, b. 5 January 1852, NC, d. 1 June 1930, Cove Creek, Watauga Co., NC, buried Union Cemetery, North Fork Twp. He married 1st: Mary Adeline Jones, 7 October 1871, Johnson Co., TN and 2nd Elizabeth Younce, 17 June 1897, Watauga Co., NC.
   
5. Ellen Greer, b. 1854, NC
   
6. Charles Francis Greer, b. 2 November 1855, NC, d. 1899 Ashe Co., NC. He married Mary A. Lawrence/Smith, 5 September 1872, Ashe Co., NC.
   
7. Margaret E. Greer, b. November 1857, NC and died before 1901. She married Rugus Campbell, 4 July 1875, Watauga Co., NC.
   
8. Martitia Ann Greer, b. May 1860, NC. She married Jacob Fletcher, 27 March 1876, Watauga Co., NC.
   Andrew Greer married 2nd Lear/Leah Lunceford/Norris before 1870. She was born 16 September 1846 in NC and died 11 March 1927. She is buried in Bakers Gap Cemetery, Dry Run, Johnson Co., TN. Her father is believed to have been James Norris and her mother was Ruth Lunsford. Their children:
   
9. Caroline Greer, b. 1862 in NC. She married William Cornett.
   
10. Thomas Greer, b. 1864 in NC. He married Sarah Lunceford.
    
11. Florence Greer, b. July 1870, d. before 1910. She married John Franklin (Jack) Bunten/Bunton, 28 February 1898, Watauga Co., TN.
    
12. James M. Greer, b. 1872 in NC and married Mary (Mollie) G. Bryant.
    
13. Julia Elizabeth Greer, b. 5 July 1873 in NC and died 8 October 1968. She is buried in Cove Creek, Watauga Co., NC. She married Roby Shook, 1 November 1895 in Watauga Co., NC
    

This copy of the original picture of Andrew was sent to me by Eugene Bunton, now deceased, grandson of Andrew and Leah. The cemetery where Leah was buried is now under the waters of Watauga Lake, however, her remains were moved to their present resting place.
