William Conley & Charlotte Isabel DAVIS Eggers

William EggersLottie

William Conley Eggers was born at Trade, Tennessee, April 22, 1890, and died at Mountain City on May 13, 1948. His father was Hiram Eggers (1854-1916), son of Brazilla (Zill) Eggers and Sarah (Sallie) Isaacs. His mother was Martha Jones (1858-1938), daughter of Hiram Jones and Sarah Musgrave. Sarah (1826-1872) was the oldest of ten children of Enoch B. Musgrave and his wife Elizabeth. Hiram Jones (1823-1899) was one of three sons of Thomas Jones and Frances (Fanny) Greer.

On August 20, 1911, Conley married Charlotte (Lottie) Isabel Davis, daughter of John G. Davis and Martha Eveline Church. Lottie was born at Mabel, Watauga County, North Carolina, June 12, 1891; she died at Mountain City, Tennessee, April 4, 1986. Both are buried at Moretz Family Cemetery, Mabel, North Carolina.

Conley was a tenant farmer and worked for Whiting Lumber Company for many years as well. From their marriage in 1911, through the births of their five children, until March 1944 when they bought their own place at Mountain City, Conley and Lottie moved 28 times. The photos here were enlarged from a snapshot taken in the spring or summer of 1944 at their home at Mountain City.

Thanks to my sister, Jessica, for the great work with the old photographs. Conley and Lottie Eggers were our grandparents.
