Besides the name, "Samps Gill", on the front of the picture, the only clue printed on the back is: "R.S. McDade, ARTIST, Taylorsville, E. TENN". Taylorsville became Mountain City in 1886, so the picture predates that. If you can place "Samps Gill" with a family, please contact me.
This is one of the photographs given to me by Helen Graybeal Price of Johnson City, TN. This picture was among the pictures collected by Jerry and Nora Mae Elliott Wilson. Jerry was a son of Richard Luck Wilson and Elizabeth Fenner. Nora was a daughter of Julius A. and Martha Greer Elliott and the 2nd wife of Jeremiah (Jerry) Wilson of Mountain City. Jerry Wilson's 1st wife was Frances Mariah Donnelly, daughter of Richard Hamilton Donnelly and Eliza B. Moore.
