Letitia C. Ray Potter
Letitia C. Ray Potter first wife of John Grant Potter married Johnson Co., TN 30 Nov 1882. She was born May 10, 1863 and died Nov. 27, 1895. Letitsha/Letitia Ray Potter’s parents were Leroy Ray (1833, NC- abt. 1905, VA) and Ellen Jane Thomas (1836, TN – abt. 1905, VA). Ellen’s surname is from her daughter Elvira’s death certificate.
Letitia at about age 15.

Children of Leroy and Ellen Jane Ray:
- Ellen (abt. Feb. 1849 – bef. 1860)
- Samuel D. (1854, TN – 1929, Bland Co, Virginia) married Sarah F.
Seal in Surry Co, NC in 1880. One son, William A. (1882 - no info after 1900). Their daughter, Lula (1886-1960), married Chester Snow Fletcher, a farmer in Bland County, VA.
- Elvira (1859, TN – 1930, Johnson Co, TN) married Eugene Cicero Johnson in 1886 in Johnson Co, TN. Cicero and Elvira had 9 children, 8 surviving, and lived in Johnson County the rest of their lives. Elvira and he are buried in the Johnson Cemetery, Johnson Co, TN. Surviving children: Mary Cecil, Myrtle, Vada, Andrew, Essie Mae, Leroy "Roy", Zula, and Bonnie. No one from the family lives in Johnson County any more. Myrtle, Andy and Zula left JCT between 1920 and 1932 for Pennsylvania or Maryland. Bonnie married and moved to North Dakota. Essie Mae married and moved to Minnesota and North Dakota. Cecil left JCT after her husband died in 1945 and moved to PA. Roy lived in JCT after he returned from out west. Vada lived in JCT until her death in 1940. I am descended from their second child, Myrtle.
- Letisha (1863 – 1895) married John Grant Potter. I lost sight of them until recently and but did assume Letisha died young because John had remarried between 1900-1910. (The dates on the tombstone listed at the Johnson County Genealogy page threw me off.). I did find, at the Archer Cousins page (www.archercousins.com), that John had a wife (Lillie Adam) in between Letisha and Myrtle and that he was living in Lee County, VA working as an iron miner in 1900. He had a 4th wife as well, Effie J. Jenkins. Children with Letisha: Collyer, Connelly, and Alburn.
- William (1864 – after 1880 but bef. 1930) – No other information
- Lincoln (1866 - after 1880 but bef. 1930) – No other information
- Robert (1870 – after 1880 but bef. 1930) – No other information.
- Columbus W. (1873, VA – after 1930, Pulaski Co, VA?) married Josie Kersey in 1911, Tazewell Co, VA. They had one son Lynch K. (1912-1982). Lum worked mostly as a carpenter.
- Leroy, Jr. (1876, Grayson Co, VA – 1926. Tazewell Co, VA) married Willie H. Wingo in Tazewell Co, VA in 1907. Leroy was a farmer. They had five children: Early, Worley, Murl (daughter), Harley, and Samuel. Harley and Sam served in WW II.
