J.D. and Hazel Stalcup Kyte (1)

J.D. and Hazel Stalcup Kyte J. D. Kyte (1916-1997) was born in Cobb’s Creek near Butler, Tennessee to Hiram Warner Kite (1859-1937) and Bertie Ellen Tribett (1887-1978). In the 1920 United States Census he was a three-year-old living in the Kite Hollow with his parents.
J. D. Kyte attended Cobb Creek School and Cobb Creek Baptist Church.
May 12, 1934, he married Hazel R. Stalcup (1918-2009) daughter of Stacy Clayton Stalcup (1889-1969) and Sabra Alice Arney (1889-1958). She grew up in the Pine Orchard area of Johnson County. She attended Little Doe School and Little Doe Baptist Church.
J. D. and Hazel lived within the Watauga Reservoir area and were included in the 1942 Population Survey. They moved to a 21-acre farm in 1942.
J.D. worked at various plants in Elizabethton – North American Rayon, Magnavox and he worked at Summers Taylor Construction. He was primarily farmer but also worked as a school bus driver and custodian at Shoun’s school in Mountain City.
J. D. and Hazel had seven children together

Together J. D. and Hazel, raised their children, ran a farm, and taught their children hard work, faith and the value of family.
They died on their farm in Pine Orchard and are buried there.
